Power Apps modern commanding is now Generally Available (GA)

Today, June 2, Casey Burke, Senior Program Manager announced the General Availability of Power Appls modern commanding, which has been in preview for almost a year. Modern commanding provides the ability to modify the Command Bars in your Model Driven Apps using an easy to use low-code experience, and the ability to add business logic using either Power FX or JavaScript.

For many years now, we have been using the Ribbon Workbench solution in our Dynamics environments (or via the plugin in XRM Toolbox), as using and customizing the XML was a major pain. I would like to personally thank Scott Durow for years of supporting the community and maintaining this great product.

The Modern commanding, not only provides the same features that are currently available, but also has some improvements. Some of these include Copy/Paste functionality, Optimized Navigation, Drag and Drop support and Performance improvements.

There are also some new functions that are available as part of the Modern Commanding such as using RecordInfo() and DataSourceInfo() to control the visibility of commands as well as working with the current record in Saved and Unsaved Mode.

There are still many gaps until this is completely in parity with the classic Ribbon commands, one of the biggest is the ability to migrate the OOB or custom commands that were created. Having modern commanding simplifies the future creation of commands, but it does not mean that Microsoft has completed work on the product. Still in the pipeline is the ability to Edit OOB and first party commands and support for some of the rules that make up the current command bar.

Looking forward to what more holds for us in this coming months. You can read the full announcement in the link below:
