New Navigation for Power Apps Maker Portal

If you have launched the preview maker portal in the last week or so, you might have seen some big changes in the navigation and the ability to customize this to fit the needs of the maker. In this post, I will demonstrate some of the new highlights of the new preview portal (currently in Preview), and discuss some of the benefits.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform 2023 Release Wave 1 Plans

Yesterday (January 25, 2023), Microsoft release their plans for Microsoft Dynamics 2023 Release Wave 1. These release plans are available in various formats and can be accessed on the Microsoft Learn site, the Microsoft Release Planner or can be downloaded as PDFs.

Virtual table creation in Maker Portal

As part of the 2023 Wave 1 Release Plan, Microsoft simplified the process of connecting to external data and creating virtual tables from within the Maker portal. This process makes creating these connections very easy, and results can be seen in a manner of minutes. Configuration is now at the fingertips of citizen developers as well.

Dependent Assemblies with Power Platform Tools

In late July, Microsoft announced the preview of Dependent Assemblies, which would allow the ability to register individual assemblies, and upload a nuget package that contains both the plugin assembly and the dependent assembly. Previously, the only way this was available was the use of the ILMerge tool to manually merge dependent assemblies.

Power Platform Tools for Visual Studio

The Power Platform Tools for Visual Studio provide the ability to quickly create, debug and deploy plugings. There are some other capabilities that are still currently in preview, such as the deployment of custom workflow activities, web resources and other integration components.

Advanced Find changes bring us closer to Parity

Earlier this year in March, as part of the 2022 Release Wave 1, Microsoft introduced the Modern Advanced find to replaced what we have known as Advanced find for the past 20 years or so. It was definitely time to modernize this, but there were a few shortcomings to this new release which caused many customers to hold off and wait until the missing functionality has been developed and made available to customers.
